Looking for a timely poem celebrating the merrie month of May, I finally gave up. Poems about the flowers that bloom in the spring, tra la, don't seem to fit my mood this year.
Then a Facebook post reminded me that today, May 10, 2017, is Vesak. I snagged the following poem from the net. Seems a better fit to me.
Vesak poem
There would be lanterns alighted all over the island
vanishing your darkness of ignorancelight the lamp of truth in your heart
through the eye of dhamma
see the great lord buddhaoffer a flower in temple
throw bad blood and jealousy awaygive kindness and humanity to all
through the eye of dhamma
see the great lord buddhajust like a dying flower
or melting snows
everything is uncertain in our life
knowing that suffering is part of lifeknowing that you will die someday
smile and be happy
live the best way you can
through the eye of dhamma
see the great lord buddhawe have got golden chance
to born as humans
use it to see the life
while getting wet in dhamma rain
through the eye of dhamma
see the great lord buddha
